how to polish jade

We know that polishing jade makes the surface of the jade better at reflecting light, giving it a smooth, shiny look.

The principle of polishing is to use a non-hard material (such as cloth) to grind. Not too hard, not too rough. Generally, there are two ways. For bare body jade articles (such as jade bracelets, jade buckles, and ring surfaces), hand-polishing is often used, and for Guanyin, Maitreya Buddha, and various flower pieces, a grinding machine is used. Grinding machine polishing takes a long time, about a week to complete, but can polish a large batch at a time.

The first polishing process is:

1. Use a power tool to install a diamond drill bit to decorate the jade piece, and then use a diamond assorted file to repair it meticulously.

2. Grind a large area with round sandpaper (from coarse to fine sand).

3. Use a round cloth wheel to apply polishing paste for large-area polishing.

4. Apply polishing paste with a felt burs for detailed polishing.

5. It can also be directly polished with a rubber burs.

6. Finally, use 1200 grit sandpaper for manual polishing.

The second polishing process is:

1. Apply paste: apply a layer of paste-like polishing powder to the surface of the carved jadeite. The green is chrome oxide, the orange-red is cerium oxide.

2. For push grinding, use a 2,000-grit grinding wheel to grind the surface.

3. Repeat the first two steps, usually two times.

4. The purpose of cleaning is to remove the polishing powder remaining on the polished jadeite. Basically, use an ultrasonic machine to clean, and then use alcohol to wipe the places that cannot be cleaned.

5. The diamond powder is applied to the surface of the emerald with a bristle brush and polished with a stiff brush.

6. For fine polishing, the jadeite is coated with diamond powder and then polished with a hard skin.

7. Waxing, a kind of protection for the surface of the finished jadeite, can be washed off with boiling water, followed by blow-drying. A beautiful jadeite will meet you in this way.

Emerald has high hardness, but as long as you have diamond or synthetic diamond tools and speed, you can carve as you like.

Polishing and polishing to radiant brilliance is not simple. There are three basic processes:

Coarse grinding: Use grit with a mesh size of 1000 to 2000 to carefully polish tools of different shapes.

Fine grinding: Use (1600-1800 mesh) emery to be smooth and shiny by the same method as above.

To brighten, use a semi-raw cowhide production tool to dip in polishing powder (2800–3000 mesh diamond powder) and rub repeatedly to make the jadeite products bright inside and out.

Over-waxing: over-waxing is for waterproofing and anti-dirty pollution.
