Conventional diamond burs are made by plating small industrial or mineral diamond particles on stainless steel shanks by a galvanic process. This technology dates from the 1950s and has some inherent limitations, owing to the heterogeneity of the grain shapes, the difficulty of automation, and the short lifetime.
1. Friction grips are used in conjunction with carbide and diamond head burs. Friction grips are used with high-speed handpieces and like latch-type shanks they are generally around 20mm in length with a 1.6mm diameter.
2.Diamond burs Friction grip (FG) are used in the high-speed handpieces. The diamond burs are available in different shapes and are most used for sectioning teeth, removing/smoothing bone, and teeth.
3.According to different head shapes, we can classify them in Barrel, Depth Marking, End Cut, Flame, Flat Cone/Taper, Flat End Cylinder, Football, Gross Reduction, Inverted Cone, Needle, Pear, Round, Round End Cone/Taper, Round End Cylinder, Taper Round Edge, Torpedo, and Wheel.
4.Based on different type of grits. They are categorized as Super Coarse (Black), Coarse (Green), Medium (Blue), fine (Red), extra fine (Yellow)
5. The shank type of ISO standard number is 314. The shank diameter is 1.60mm. And the standard overall length is 19mm. Other size is also available.
6.High-grade stainless-steel shank, high strength, no rusty.
7. Grinding head is made of natural diamond powder. high hardness and wear resistance.
What can them be used for?
★Diamond burs are typically used for precision shaping and polishing, but as diamond is one of the hardest known materials, they are often used to cut through zirconia or grind porcelain during the preparation and placement of veneers and crowns.
★Diamond burs enable faster and smoother cutting and are needed when a cut requires extreme precision.
