Steps
Step 1. Find and Cut a Piece of Wood
Find a beautiful wood and cut a small slice off of it with a electric saw.
Step 2. Mark a Circle on the Wood
In case of making mistakes, we suggest using the ring to mark a general circle with a pencil.
Step 3. Drill the Ring Hole
Drill a ring hole with a diamond bur along the edge of the circle drawn last step. Make sure to go slow. Otherwise, your wood will be split easily.
Step 4. Shape It to Fit
When you've drilled the hole, slide it onto your finger to check if it fits. If it didn't, take a little more off until eventually it was close enough to just barely fit over your knuckle. But it’s not quite there, so then you could move in with sandpaper that is installed on the mandrel, and sand it to the final size. Wetting sandpaper to sand the ring can get a smoother finish. Then you can see here how glossy it is and how it slides onto your finger perfectly.
*NOTE:
It's really important to check frequently to make sure it's the right size. If you go a little too far into the wood, it could change how your ring fits on your hand. So you’ll always want to keep checking it.
Step 5. Shape Your Ring
Take some sandpaper and start sanding down the excess of the ring. Once the final shape is worked out, take some medium grit sandpaper to work out the scratches from the grit. And then take some fine grit sandpaper to polish the piece.
Step 6. Get Rid of Scratches on Your Ring
When you dip the ring in the water, you can see there are still a lot of scratches in there. So what you should do is to continue to wet sand the entire ring up to 2500 grit sandpaper, which is incredibly fine. What that did is it gave a super polished and smooth finish on the entire surface of the ring.
Step 7. Oil Your Ring
Oil your ring with any oil you like, but we suggest using walnut oil because it is not only good for your skin, but it also brings out the true color of the wood. And then apply it with a paper towel.
